Drugs and Alcohol Taking more American Lives

New studies have shown that the problem of addiction to drugs and alcohol in the United States is growing worse -- much worse. 1 in 4 deaths in the United States are linked to drugs and/or alcohol. A staggering figure, this only means that 25% of people in the United States die from drugs and alcohol, this does not even illustrate exactly how many people in the US have a chemical dependency.

Now more than ever it is important to watch for the warning signs of addiction, and to get your loved ones help in treating their addictions as soon as possible.

Above It All Treatment is a rehab center in California that knows all to well the dangers of addiction. But there is hope for those afflicted with addiction. 12 step addiction recovery programs have shown great successes in treating those that are addicted to alcohol, cocaine, heroin. prescription drugs, and other chemicals. The success rates are much higher with programs that use the 12 steps for various reasons; mainly, the steps guide patients along the path of healing, and continue to be beneficial even after treatment has been completed.

Rebuilding After Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy is gone, but the devastation she left in her wake is still quite evident. There are hundreds of homes and buildings that completely destroyed, and thousands of homes and buildings that have been severely damaged.

The rescue efforts -- brought on early by President Barack Obama -- were swift and successful, yet the rebuilding and cleanup efforts have been slow, hampered by the lack of supplies, gas and power, and worst of all another powerful storm following into the Eastern Seaboard just behind the now defunct Sandy.

There are many efforts being made by individuals and businesses to the west of the affected states though. Many individuals have been sending food, water, toiletries, and basic necessities to those who were displaced by the hurricane; while companies have done their part by sending trucks, equipment, building supplies and roofing products to the east.

We cannot know how the strong Nor'easter storm will directly effect cleanup efforts that are already underway; but we pray that safety can be maintained.

Different Destination

"I cant change the direction of the wind...but i can adjust my sails to always reach my destination"

My friend recently got into a car accident and it paralyzed him from the waist down. I have been working with him for the last 6 months on not only getting his mind process changed about wheelechairs but the awesome sports he can get involved in.

I have purchased a handicap accessible van for him and i have completely decked it out and so now I'm working on changing his thought process of how cool handicap accessible vans are! :) It's a work in progress but its a POSITIVE change and just a different DESTINATION than the one originally planned!

The Gulf Oil Spill

This week they said that the worst oil spill in U.S. history has been stopped for good. Great news for the southern states. They estimate that the spill consisted of 4.4 million gallons!  The National Geographic site has some incredible photos and information of this terrible disaster.
